Take Your Legislature To Work Day

State and district public policy chairs set up appointments with legislators for members/constituents in a variety of locations.  For “State Legislative Day”, held in Harrisburg, members/constituents meet their state representatives and state senators (or aides and staff) in their office in the Main Capitol, the East Wing, the Irvis Building or the Ryan Building.  For the “Public Policy Workshop” held in Washington, DC, a similar strategy is followed for appointments held in the Canon or Rayburn House Office Buildings.  Usually groups of member/constituents visit the US Senators (or aides and staff) in the Russell or Hart Senate Office Buildings.  Both tactics offer a great way to impress a singleset of messages upon Congress or the state assembly on a single day.

On a year-round basis, the “LVDA Legislative Road Trip” enables a member/constituent to meet their state representative or state senator in their district office.  We can visit our seven Congressmen.  During these appointments, members describe how they became RDs, the credentialing process and what they do.

This event enables registered dietitians to invite one or many state or federal legislators to a single event held at a RD workplace.  Thursdays and Fridays are when state legislators return to their districts.  Congressmen return to their districts during the August District Work Period.  What an opportunity to for members to get to know their legislators.  In turn, it is an ideal opportunity for legislators to understand more about nutrition services, our education and continuing education, our credentialing and licensure, scope of practice, reimbursement issues and the effectiveness of the public funding.
